Beat Your Life!

“Your life is your life
Don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission.
Be on the watch.
There are ways out.
There is a light somewhere.
It may not be much light but
It beats the darkness.”
(Charles Bukowski, ‘The Laughing Heart’)

How many of us today are ready to be bogged down by cockeyed conventions? How many are ready to accept established norms just for the sake of obeisance? How many will wholeheartedly oblige if some drag king decides to rule nonchalantly? Hardly a soul I believe; just those who proudly flaunt their cultivated masks of fake conformity, and those who sit and whine when things fall apart.

The truth is: genuineness and unconventionality is what helps in making a mark on the world. If you go down just one corridor of thought, you never get to see what’s in the rooms leading off it. Beyond all our actions stands the larger shadow: How are we to choose between what we have been taught to think ‘right’ and something else which ‘might’ be? Real, constructive mental power lies in the mental conduct and the creative thoughts that eventually shape our destiny. So, develop a train of thought on which to ride. Change your perception and you change your world. You just have one mortal life in hand. Beat it! Beat it well!

Flow of thoughts got overflowed, and led to this small piece of verse:

We are the truth.
We are the lies.
We are what remain when all hope dies.
We are the requiem of the circling world.
We define the symphony in stories untold.

We bring thoughts.
We bring lives.
We are the preserved casket of vibes.
We kill with minds and play with fights.
We stamp each other to scale all heights.

We seek freedom.
We seek peace.
We cry out loud when life’s not at ease.
We mark heavens and borders with red.
‘One Life for One World,’ we tend to forget.

We are the truth.
We are the lies.
We are the imprints of celestial sighs.
Life’s not worth if you sit and drool:
Arise, awake, beat your life and rule!

This poem is inspired by a song
titled “Zinda Hai To” (English: If You’re Alivefrom an upcoming Hindi movie Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (English: Run Milkha Run). The lyrics are a bit unconventional but insightful, and the song is already going viral as the next anthem for the young bloods.

“Zindagi ka yeh ghada re / Ek saans mein chadha re
Hichkiyon mein kya marna / Poora mar le…”

Listen to the song here. Hope you’ll enjoy it! 🙂

  1. “zindagi se badi sazaa hi nahin,
aur kyaa jurm hai pataa hi nahin”.
The above verse kept pecking my mind as I read through this post — but, your marvelous words finally won over. O’ nomadic one, you’ve inspired a pulse to beat, a breath to breathe, for one more day — for many of us, perhaps knowingly, perhaps unknowingly.
*a toast for the post… and one for the author*

    • Ah! I almost thought I had written this as lesser poetry and more of a child’s rhyme. And then ‘she’ comes, and turns it into a pearl! *bow* *wow*
Really really humbled, and the toast brought a huge grin on my face. 😀

      • The ocean turns tiny grains of sand in the belly of oyster into precious pearls. Ah, what power can my meek words ever have on “gauhar-e-yakdana?” It is your own ocean of wisdom that turns your words into pearls — offering them to the world on “humane” strings.
        *curtsy*

        • Humbled. Stupefied. Wow!
Silence is the best answer I may give to this. Silence is the best tribute to such an appreciation. Silence is what such an articulated string of perfect thoughts truly deserve. *musing over the words, still*
          *bow* *pause* *bow*

    • Heyy! Great to connect with you Amira. 🙂

Well, we all exist, and some just survive to exist… it’s that sudden surge or some spur that lifts us to the dominion of life. And I believe you have it too.. somewhere, hidden, waiting. 🙂

    • A warm welcome to you! Really glad to connect with you.
You have quite an informative blog. It’s a treat to spend some time there. Keep visiting. 🙂

      Best wishes
