Soliloquies at Sunrise

“There are a thousand thoughts lying within a man
that he does not know till he takes up the pen to write.”
(William Makepeace Thackeray)

Every sunrise is an invitation for us to rise up from bed and brighten someone’s day.

Sunrise indicates a new beginning, a fresh start. The dawning brings brightness into life and enlivens people to start the day with energy and intensity. Whenever you come across a scenic, beautiful daybreak, you cannot suppress a heavy sigh of happiness. In a way, nature, in the form of sunrise, plays the role of an illusionist from distant lands!

Few thoughts which struck me this morning as the first rays of light defied the rusty grills and bumped into my half-open eyes…

•
Puddle Cuddle

Every time a heavy downpour fills up the potholes making it a dirty affair for us, we curse the gods and the governments. But our rational and mechanical mindset clouds our vision, making it impossible for us to see, that — children never bypass a puddle of water, but jump, splash, and slosh right through it. That’s because they know an important truth: Life was meant to be lived. Puddles were meant to be experienced. A mud spot on the fibre can be rinsed and will be gone; but the ecstasy of small momentary triumphs, that’s a lifelong delight!

• Popping Pups

Have you ever ruminated on the miracle of an innocent, amorphous popcorn? It starts out as a tiny, little, compact kernel with mystery trapped inside it. When agitated, it bursts to create something marvelously desirable and enthrallingly delicious. It’s sort of like those tiny, little thoughts trapped inside a gifted autistic child’s head which — after an excited explosion of expressions — suddenly become a bewitching bedtime story.

• Timeless Spells

Sinbad or Heidi, Aladdin or Shrek, Panchatantra or Brothers Grimm: The magic of fairy-tales knows no age barrier. For it takes but a simply-uttered ‘Once upon a time…’ to allure and spellbind an audience! For instance, during a noisy school morning assembly someone just lets out a ‘Once upon a time…’ into the microphone. And Voila! The room goes dead silent instantly, and hundreds of curious eyes and expectant ears will be waiting to enter the Chamber of Secrets.

• Scribble Giggle

‘Say Cheese!’ The power of a smile is such that even drawing a happy face on a piece of paper makes your lips turn up. Whether you scribble it as 🙂 or (: or ^_^ or (•‿•) — they all have that same titanic effect on your heart, unlike any other feeling. Even while chatting or texting, a written message devoid of a tiny smiling creature conjures up enough dubiety in the heart to throw a ‘Why So Serious?’ remark. That curve on any face is almost like a force of nature, making unbound and unparalleled repercussions.

Let’s sing out loud that we are kings
Equipped with soul, thoughts, and wings;
What good is life if it fails to feel
The world unknown, or stir the still?

As we frame our deepest thought,
It fleets to a strange, faraway spot;
And leaves few smiles and few burns
Like trails to follow as it turns.

All thoughts have life, which fly so high
And etch their imprints by-and-by;
Like some cool wind, whose amorous breath
Enlivens homes and overcomes death.

So let your deepest thoughts be clear,
They have some part and the firmest steer,
In building worlds and moulding fate

Sunshine calls, here ends the wait!

  1. Written in a very energetic and enthusiastic mood, loved it!
    Really liked the “Once upon a time…” funda and its implementation in an early morning assembly; could be a very refreshing scene if implemented in a TV commercial, of course one can’t be too tacky about it 🙂

    About the “Popping Pups”, a bit more elaboration could have been added instead of just ending it with a bedtime fantasy. A child’s mind is such a wonderful toy-house, its just like the several gears inside a watch. So I feel that a more detailed connection could have been applied between the child’s mind and the crackling popcorn; the idea is cool, no doubt about that 🙂

    “Say Cheese!” Yes, you have nailed it with this one! That striking curve always triggers the mood. But I don’t whether its just me, but I feel sometimes it plays a hypocritical role; its just just like when one types “LOL” even though he’s just sitting expressionless munching on to something 😀

    The title, you know we always associate soliloquies with a shadowy outlined figure. When this comes to a write-up, I guess the tone could have been in such a way that the observer, which is you, is witnessing the scenes as if they are being played with a light behind them. The words could have been arranged such that giving an impression that you are simply “watching” and not going into the internal details (eg., kernals).
    The write-up has turned out to be a cock-tail of simply observations and analysis, would have preferred simply observations; just like a vagabond who watches the world.

    ……*whew*…..wrote enough right? My bad 😀
    As a whole, thumps up man!!
    If you compare this piece with “The Doppelgänger”, the second one completely steals the show.
    Good luck!!

  2. This one reminds me of the small bits of joys that we in our day to day life as adults leave out or avoid… simple words but a very powerful message… 🙂

  3. I had such a wonderful time
    wandering through your thoughts and rhymes
    I will enjoy more of what you have to say
    Thank you for sharing parts of you …
    Take Care..
